Spring 2014

It is not officially Spring just yet but my garden certainly thinks that spring has arrived as there are all sorts of flowers in bloom. It is good to say farewell to such a wet winter. We are lucky to live on high ground but even so the garden is waterlogged in places and the horses are stodging around in the mud.

Where did last year go? On a personal level what a wonderful year I had! My twin grandsons were born in February – my little bundles of joy! Not so little now as Bobbie and George have just celebrated their first birthday!

On a business level 2013 was a busy a year. We were lucky to meet many new guests and also welcome back many old faces. My time was divided between bed and breakfast duties and grandparent duties and I now know which is the hardest! I am so grateful to Allie, my friend and neighbour who did all my work when I was away and did it so well too. I don’t think I was missed at all! My husband and son also did their share….thank you!

So this is our 35th season of bed and breakfast!  So many changes and updates over the years! The biggest change being the way people find me and how they make a booking. Twenty and thirty years people just drove past, saw the bed and breakfast sign, stopped and knocked on the door. This does still occasionally happen but, apart from repeat customers ( there are many and it’s wonderful to have guests return again and again) nearly all my new customers find me on the world wide web.

Call me old fashioned ( or stuck in my ways) but I prefer personal contact by email or phone with potential customers and that is why  I do not have an online booking system. I try to respond as quickly as possible to email enquiries and it is more personal than ‘two clicks and you’re done’. By not taking payment by card I can keep my prices as reasonable  as possible.

So some things do change ( you may even notice a little change here or there at The Corner House) but some things will stay the same forever……a warm welcome will always be waiting for you at our traditional English B and B !

Hoping to meet you in 2014!
